It always starts with humble beginnings right?  Dude from the hood, trynna make a way, slangin’ day and night…making that easy money.  But truth be told, every lyricist didn’t come from the hood, nor did they run the streets slangin’.  Many rap about it, yet never ever having cocked an AK, rolled a fatty, or did that hard time.  You will never see or hear J@y's story fabricated.  Struggle, yeah he’s done that, however definitely not through the mean streets of VA, but as man trying to find himself without guidance…seeking self-fulfillment and his reason for being.

J@y, Virginia born and raised, adopted his stage name in college as he was said to have "presidential swag" when it came to his watch apparel.  A country boy at heart with a city boy grind, J@y spent his childhood between southern Georgia and central Virginia.  The drive to pursue his craft progressed at age 19, while a freshman at Monroe College in New York.  However, J@y has had music in his heart from age 10.  After the unexpected death of his father, J@y began writing for comfort…a form of expression in coping with his father’s passing.

So write and lyricist, but you can add producer to his crafts…J@y is a Jack of all Trades.  He has been fortunate to produce all of his music.  His rhymes can be categorized as conscious rap.

His resume consists of four mixtapes: American Baby: Born on the Battlefield which dropped Fall 2011, consisting of 20 tracks and one bonus, which it addresses the economic issues of America.  His second mixtape Live 2 Tell, was released Winter 2012.  This double disc consists of 28 tracks.  J@y  says he had more material and wanted to get it out as soon as possibleLive 2 Tell depicts the different variations of one’s demise and the stories to be told if one could tell their tale of survival.  The Naked City which followed nearly a year later in the Fall of 2013, consisting of 23 hard tracks with 2 bonuses.  It was a clever smooth motion picture colliding with a classic hip-hop story. His final mixtape to date, Habitat Dialogue, was released in the Summer of 2014 with 21 tracks and 2 bonuses.  Habitat Dialogue painted life struggles, trials and tribulations...everything that happens in your environment on a daily basis (habitat) this was the DIALOGUE captured.  J@y is currently hard at work on an unexpected album with a release to be announced., but please believe he will NOT disappoint.

How long will J@y be in the rap game?  That remains to be unseen, be he without a doubt has what it takes to go far.  He says he “hates rappers who want to retire.”  If you truly love what you do you’ll never ever stop.  J@y has no intentions of stopping soon or ever for that matter as he sees himself doing this for “FOREVER.”
